- AMIGA ARCHIVE FILES
-
- Most programs that you'll download from a bbs for the Amiga will be
- archived. These are programs that have been compressed to take less disk
- space and transmission time. The archived files have to be expanded back
- to normal before they can be used.
- Among the programs used to compress and expand files are PKAZIP,
- LHARC, ARC, ZOO, WARP, etc. Files that have been compressed with these
- usually have names that end with ZIP, LHZ, ARC, ZOO, WRP, etc. An example
- is PICTURE.LHZ. To expand this file, you would need a program called LHARC.
- You would type, from the CLI: LHARC E PICTURE and the archive would
- create one or more files that you could then use.
- Most Amiga programs MUST be archived before transmission or they
- will not run when received.
